Dear December 6, 1981,

6 Dec

Thank you for being the day of my birth… and thank you for allowing me to guiltlessly drink this glass of Francis Coppola Black Label Claret on a Monday. Who would have “thunk” that after 29 years, I’d be where I am now. In some ways so happy and fulfilled and in some ways so alone.  Something tells me that this is the meantime. There is a huge difference in my understanding of myself, the world around me, and life in general than there was even 10 very short years ago. Something tells me that in 10 more years, even more peace and acceptance will come. I love every day that I learn and every day that I spend with my daughter. Even the nights I cry and the birthdays no one calls me are a blessing because I am alive and I love that.  Here’s to you December 6, 1981.  May we always grow, may every emotion mean something. May we always get better – and may I see you many, many times.

Love,

Kelly

P.S  I do want to see you many times…but maybe next year someone will call or we can do something besides take-out Chinese and Dora the explorer all night 🙂 I’m just saying…it works for this year, but maybe just a little different next year. The fortune cookie is good though “It is now, and in this world, that we must live.”
